Discover Harwich by E-Bike
Harwich is a historic maritime town with more than 800 years of stories to discover. It is perhaps best known as the home of Christopher Jones, master of the Mayflower, which carried the Pilgrims to America in 1620. Its sheltered harbour has welcomed sailors, explorers and naval vessels for centuries, leaving the town with a fascinating collection of historic buildings and landmarks.
Your EEZYBIKE adventure begins close to Ha’penny Pier on Harwich Quay. Built in 1853, it is one of the UK’s few remaining working wooden piers and takes its name from the halfpenny toll once charged to enter. From here, you can follow the Maritime Heritage Trail through Old Harwich, passing the Low Lighthouse, Lifeboat Museum, historic Treadwheel Crane and the beautifully preserved Electric Palace Cinema.
A short ride takes you to the impressive Redoubt Fort, built in the early 1800s to protect the harbour from possible Napoleonic invasion. You can also explore Harwich’s traditional streets, stop at one of the local cafés or pubs, enjoy views across the Haven, or continue along the coast towards Dovercourt Bay. With its rich history, sea views and quiet roads, Harwich is a wonderful place to explore at the relaxed pace of an e-bike.
