Mid Suffolk District Council is committed to helping its residents and visitors make sustainable journeys. These journeys benefit our environment, as well as our physical and mental health and wellbeing.
Mid Suffolk District Council, along with other councils across Suffolk and beyond, are working to encourage more active travel for the following reasons:
-
To keep residents healthy – Being physically active can reduce the risk of heart and circulatory disease by as much as 35% and risk of early death by as much as 30%.
-
It’s good for the environment – If you choose to cycle just one mile a week, you’ll save 26kg of carbon dioxide a year. That’s a 90% saving of Co2 compared to car journeys.
-
Cycling helps improve mental health and cycling and releases feel good endorphins.
Since January 2024, Mid Suffolk District Council has been working with EEZYBIKE to make hiring one of EEZYBIKE’s e-bikes available and affordable for residents and visitors, using a secure, solar charging pod at Needham Lake. Babergh District Council, a close partner of Mid Suffolk District Council, has now requested our NEW solar powered pod to be installed at a new location which utilises a keypad to be automatically opened.

To use the NEW solar charged EEZYPODs, riders enter the unique code they are sent into the keypad on the pod for easy automatic opening of the pod. The e-bikes are suitable for both the pathways and the rugged terrain around the lake as they have sturdy tyres and are robustly built. The council receives rider usage statistics as part of the offering.

User feedback has been very positive, with residents and visitors saying they were delighted with the EEZYBIKE e-bike experience. We’re thrilled that riders have consistently given us 5 star ratings on Tripadvisor.

“EEZYBIKE and their revolutionary EEZYPOD have enabled us to pilot a subsidised e-bike rental scheme – which supports our sustainable travel workstream, as well as our local visitor economy offering. Having one of their EEZYPODs, with two e-bikes to rent, at our Needham Lake site has been received really positively by local people and visitors alike, and offers an opportunity for people to try out an e-bike, which helps us to enable modal shift to more sustainable forms of transport. EEZYBIKE have been a pleasure to work with, taking care of lots of technical details for us, as well as coming up with imaginative ideas for business partnerships and cycle routes to encourage further update of the new provision.”

The council is now interested in deploying our e-bikes and solar e-pods in other locations, to encourage active travel, reduce car journeys and emissions and keep residents healthy.
