EEZYBIKE has partnered with Babergh District Council to expand its award-winning e-bike rental service to two new locations: Kingfisher Leisure Centre in Sudbury and the Cock Horse pub car park in Lavenham.

Opportunity to Try an E-bike

Launched in May 2025, the EEZYBIKE installation near the Kingfisher Leisure Centre in Sudbury gives residents and visitors the opportunity to try out an e-bike for an affordable price, just a short walk away from Sudbury Train Station. The public can now explore the Gainsborough Trail and surrounding countryside and roads with ease, enjoying a cleaner, healthier mode of active travel.

Consistent 5* Reviews on Tripadvisor

The installation follows the resounding success of the initial EEZYBIKE pilot in Needham Lake with Mid Suffolk District Council in 2024. Community feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with consistent 5-star ratings on TripAdvisor, highlighting the scheme’s convenience, user-friendliness and environmental impact.

Rider’s Journey Back to Active Travel

Among the many stories, one review stood out. A rider living with a disability wrote:

"These bikes have changed my life. For the first time all year I felt free able to fly in the countryside, work back into fitness in a manageable way. I'd like to express my deepest appreciation for helping me in my journey back to recovery with such affordable accessible, disability friendly facilities. They have really helped me turn my mental and physical health around this year. I can't thank you enough."

The review is proof that this initiative is more than just transport, it is about a transformational experience back to active travel. The EEZYBIKE e-bike rental scheme helps makes transport more inclusive.

Active Travel Objectives

Said Cllr Helen Davies, Cabinet Member for Climate Change, Nature Recovery and Biodiversity at Babergh District Council:

“This new EEZYBIKE pod in Sudbury is a great addition for the town – helping to encourage more environmentally friendly travel options for both residents and visitors alike. E-bikes can be quite a considerable investment to buy up front. So, by the council subsidising the rental costs, you can give it a try and see if it’s something you’re interested in first. I would encourage everyone to give them a go and experience the health and carbon benefits that cycling can bring.”

Changing Travel Habits

The e-bike initiative supports Babergh District Council’s ongoing mission to reduce carbon emissions and promote active lifestyles, given that road vehicles accounted for 90% of transport emissions. Research in Switzerland has shown that when car owners were able to try an e-bike free for two weeks in exchange for their car keys. A year later, researchers found that participants, whether they ended up buying an e-bike or not, had significantly weaker habitual associations with car use. In other words, the trial effectively disrupted entrenched driving habits and nudged individuals toward more sustainable mobility options.

E-bikes in Lavenham

From August this year EEZYBIKEs are now available to hire at a third location in Suffolk - Lavenham. Residents and visitors to Lavenham can now hire EEZYBIKEs, that are stored in a secure EEZYPOD in the Church Street car park, behind the Cock Horse Pub. â€‹

The EEZYBIKE solar-powered e-bike pod delivers a seamless user experience. Riders simply book online, receive a unique access code, and unlock the pod at their scheduled time. Returning the bike is just as straightforward.

Si Cooper, EEZYBIKE founder, said:

“We are delighted to be helping Babergh District Council implement its vision for active travel and sustainable travel. May was the hottest May on record, made five times more likely by climate change. Our e-bikes help the public and businesses reduce greenhouse emissions by 90%, provide health benefits and can help encourage modal shift. EEZYBIKE is proud to have won several awards for our e-bike innovation. We are thrilled to be a part of this movement toward a greener, healthier future and look forward to expanding our collaboration with councils, organisations and communities across the UK.”
